Effective date: 23 August 2026
1. Scope
These API Terms apply to the public Pincode API at api.pincodeapi.in and any plan page that links to these terms. They apply in addition to the website Terms of Use, Privacy Policy and Abuse Policy.
2. Current Starter access
The currently available Starter plan is free. The documented public rate limit is 6 API calls per 10 seconds per IP address. We do not currently publish a separate monthly request allowance for the Starter plan. Fair-use and abuse protections continue to apply.
3. Supported endpoints
Only endpoints shown in the current API documentation are part of the documented public service. The current Go V1 documentation covers PIN and DIGIPIN lookup, post-office lookup, full-text search, nearby-office lookup, state and district browsing, postal-circle hierarchy browsing, and service metadata, statistics and health endpoints.
4. Use of the API
You may use the Starter plan for lawful personal, educational or commercial projects, subject to these terms. Free access does not include guaranteed capacity, guaranteed response time, dedicated support or a service-level agreement.
5. Rate limits and fair use
Do not bypass a rate limit through proxy rotation, multiple source addresses, automated relays or similar methods. If the API returns 429 Too Many Requests, reduce the request rate and follow any Retry-After guidance provided by the response.
6. Responsible client behaviour
Use sensible caching where appropriate, avoid sending the same lookup repeatedly in a short period, and use finite timeouts. Do not create request loops that continue aggressively after an error or rate-limit response.
7. Resale and representation
You may build products that use Pincode API, but you must not misrepresent Pincode API as your own government service, claim government endorsement, or resell raw public API access as a standalone substitute service in a way that bypasses our plan, rate-limit or fair-use controls without written agreement.
8. Data limitations
API responses are based on processed postal data and can contain missing, delayed, duplicate-source or incorrect values. A successful response does not guarantee that a postal address is deliverable, that a courier serves a location, or that a coordinate is precise enough for navigation.
9. Service changes
We may correct data, add compatible response information, improve error handling, change rate limits or protect the service from misuse. Changes that would break an existing versioned API contract should be handled through an appropriate compatibility or versioning process rather than by silently renaming established V1 fields. Material documented changes will be reflected in the documentation or public changelog where practical.
10. Suspension or blocking
We may throttle, temporarily block or suspend traffic that threatens security, availability or other users, or that breaches these terms or the Abuse Policy. Free Starter access can be changed or discontinued on reasonable notice where practical.
11. Support
Starter support is best effort. API questions may be sent to api@pincodeapi.in or support@pincodeapi.in. Future paid plans may include different support terms when they are launched.
12. No SLA on the Starter plan
The Starter plan does not include an uptime, response-time or support-response service-level agreement. Planned Growth and Scale plans are not yet available and their final limits, prices and service commitments will be published before launch.
13. Liability and mandatory rights
The limitations in the website Terms of Use apply to the API to the fullest extent permitted by law. Nothing in these terms excludes liability or legal rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
