What DIGIPIN means
DIGIPIN is a digital location code published for the India Post DIGIPIN system. It is different from the six-digit Postal Index Number used for mail delivery. A DIGIPIN is designed to identify a location point or area in a digital form, while a PIN code groups postal delivery records.
How this website uses DIGIPIN
When a source record contains a DIGIPIN and it matches the supported 10-character format, the value is shown on the relevant post-office page. Invalid values are omitted rather than rewritten.
Coordinate validation and DIGIPIN bounds
This project uses the official DIGIPIN-supported grid as a coordinate-validation envelope: latitude 2.5 to 38.5 and longitude 63.5 to 99.5. Coordinates outside that range, or incomplete coordinate pairs, are not displayed publicly.
DIGIPIN and PIN code are not the same
A PIN code is used by the postal system for routing mail to a delivery area. DIGIPIN is a digital location identifier. A post-office page can show both when the processed source provides both.
